educate. engage. empower.
PEP at UCI is an on campus organization that strives to give a small group of students the opportunity to be involved in restorative justice efforts at the local level. Students visit facilities once a week and are tasked to teach inmates career development and interpersonal skills. The goal of PEP is to educate, empower, and transform the lives of incarcerated individuals. We aim to create a "prison-to-school pipeline" and provide in-custody students with cognitive tools that are necessary to function as productive citizens.
As the Prison Education Project continues to grow in the number of years we are a club we also grow in numbers. Our numbers are growing faster than the number of spots we originally had, so we have decided to expand in multiple ways. After our facility visits we spend a week planning for the next visit but we have decided to go beyond soley the facility visits and decided to focus on the education aspect our name.
